Ogoh-ogoh festival in Kuta

Ogoh-ogoh is the work of art in Bali which is nearly looks like a statue that describes the cultural personality of Bhuta Kala-The Creatures which is in Balinesse belief possesing the time. In the teachings of Hindu Dharma, Bhuta Kala represents strength (Bhu) universe and the time (Kala), which is not measurable and irrefutable.

In the embodiment of the statue is, Bhuta Kala described as a great figure, and frightening, usually in the form Rakshasa(Demon).
Apart form Rakshasa, Ogoh-ogoh also often portrayed in existence beings who live in Mayapada(The Shadow world), Heaven and Naraka(Hell), such as dragon, elephant,condor, beautiful girls-angel, even gods. In its development, have made like famous people, such as world leaders, artists or religious leaders and even criminals. Related to this, there is also a political element or even if this is actually deviate from the basic principles of Ogoh-ogoh. For example Ogoh-ogoh illustrating a terrorist.

In its main function, Ogoh-ogoh as representatives Bhuta Kala, made before the Nyepi Day and shown and roll around in the village Pangrupukan twilight hours, a day before the Nyepi Day.

According to the scholars and practitioners of Hindu Dharma, this process describing the realize of humans to the strength of the universe and the infinite power. Strengths include the strength of Bhuana Agung(the universe) and Bhuana Alit (human self). In the view Tattwa (philosophy), this can deliver the power of living beings, especially men, and the world toward happiness or destruction. All this depends on the intention noble man, as being the most noble of God in keeping himself and the world existence.
The festival of this ogoh-ogoh will be done in Kuta on March,26th 2009 starting from Legian street to Kuta Beach.This festival will be participated by 13 youth's organization in Kuta. Each participant must make a ogoh-ogoh followed with Beleganjur-Balinesse instrument and theatrical show. Annualy, this event is always interesting and attract so many tourists and local peoples.The show will be started from 07 pm local time until end.
