Galungan-The Hindu's Big Ceremony

Galungan Ceremony history is still a mystery. With learn-book library, Based on Amalat Panji Rasmi ancient book (Jenggala Age) in the XI century in East Java, Galungan had celebrated. In the end of Pararaton era Majapahit kingdom in the XVI century, this kind of celebration is also held.
According to the meaning of the language, it means a war. In language there is a Sundanese word “Galungan “ which means war.

Hindu Dharma Parisadha - The Hindu Organization in Indonesia concluded, that the ceremony Galungan have meaning Pawedalan Jagat /Oton gumi or the world’s birthday. Does not mean that Gumi / Jagad /world born on this day Buddha(Wednesday) Keliwon Dungulan. But that is the day that defined the Hindu people in Bali said their gratitude to God “Ida Sang Hyang Widhi” which had created the universe and all its contents.

Most importantly, in the implementation of the ceremony in the day-to-day feast that is the inner attitude. About the media which is called bebanten which is usually made from coconut leaves not we write a full and detailed. Only the specifics of just what the public is done by the people. But once again, the most important intention is sincerity in mind.

In a series of Galungan ceremony, library-book teaches that since Redite(Sunday) Pahing Dungulan we were visited by Kala-Tiganing Galungan.Kala means time. Sang Kala Tiga are Bhuta Galungan, Sang Bhuta Dungulan and Sang Bhuta Amangkurat. Mentioned in the literature-the literature: they are greedy symbols. So in this case the fight against the enemy is not the physical shape, but the greedy and Adharma(devil). Fight between dharma to overcome adharma

In short, we initially attacked, and then conquered, and finally mastered by the greedy. This is going to happen, the greedy will really take us, if we are passive to attacks it

According to Reader (Lontar) Djayakasunu, on the day of Galungan Ida Sanghyang Widhi blessing us with the strength of grace as faith, and spiritual purity in order to win against the adharma. The greedy of our heart of each of us. With the meaning of Galungan ceremony that, then on that time, the people rejoice and exult. Happy with the full sense of Parama Suksma, sense of gratitude, of grace Hyang Widhi. Grace is on the happy, happy also because the God and Godess, holy spirit ancestor, are among us.

Penjor is placed in front of the house with a magnificent and beautiful. It’s a symbol of mount Agung, the presence of homage to Ida Sanghyang Widhi. Penjor is made not for the sole decoration. Especially on the feast day Galungan, because penjor is a symbol full of meaning. On penjor is hanging on the agriculture products such as rice, corn, coconut, and others, as well as goods and clothing and money. Have this meaning: awakening hearted people, as the momentum to build on the human sense, that all the principal for his life is grace Hyang Widhi. All we have is his bless. Let us together in happiness, offering thanksfull to him.
We are happy and rejoice to receive the grace, whether in the form of the material necessary for life, and be a strength of faith and spiritual purity. Achieve exhilaration with gambling, drunk, or bad attitude is prohibited. Cheer up in the borders of morality (morality and social morality of) the showtimes for example the arts, literature nights, sports and others. Let us tear down the mistakes / confusion-confusion that does not fit or contradict the moral teachings.

In this Galungan day which is fall on March,18th 2009 let us

the cheer up on grace Hyang Widhi boundaries in morality and religious concerns of the nation, brave, strong and solid, in facing life in the world. Last and most important is the fact that pray to God with sincerity.
